Public Program and Lecture
Gift Moments
As part of the wider Gift Moments program at Shanmu Art Museum, John Conley, the exhibition curator, was invited to deliver a lecture at the North University of China. This lecture, held as part of the university’s international academic series, explored the photographic practice of Frank Horvat, providing deep insights into his work, methods, and his place in the history of photography. Attendees included members of the Shanxi Photographers Association, as well as students, faculty, and local photography professionals. Moving beyond the museum walls, the lecture forged a direct connection between the exhibition and the regional photography community, emphasizing the project’s role not only as an art presentation but also as a platform for academic exchange and professional dialogue across Shanxi Province.

Opening of Bai Gallery
The opening day united artists, collectors, and members of the local art community, celebrating the launch of both the gallery and SIAE’s ongoing collaboration in Beijing. Expressive Underground was designed not just as an exhibition, but as a pivotal moment that sets the stage for future programming while fostering meaningful connections between artists, institutions, and audiences. Developed in close partnership between SIAE and its Chinese collaborators, the project embodies a shared dedication to establishing lasting infrastructure for the exhibition and exchange of contemporary photography between Europe and China.
